Beam Me Up The Escarpment

My last road trip for July involved a lot of standing, a lot of walking, and a little bit of running; and of course, plenty of wine along the way. What better way to finish a 5k race that with a free glass of wine? I have made it down to the Niagara peninsula many times over the course of my 35+ years of running, as family lives nearby and I spent my best running days living and attending school in Western New York. Rock and Roll – Road Trip

July is a time for a little less running and a little more relaxing, and taking a few road trips. The weather can be a bit hot and humid, and with school out for the summer, it is a good time to hit the road. Ottawa is Canada’s capital city and hosts what is probably the country’s top race weekend of the year in late May. I have managed to run in the 5km, 10km, and half-marathon over the years but haven’t made it there in more recent times. The race weekend has gotten so big (nearly 48,000 runners) that it has become near impossible to get a hotel room for the weekend. Back in 2005 my parents Edwina and Bob made the National Capital Marathon their last run at the full marathon distance, although they actually walked it. My Mom finished in 6h06, and Read More …
